It's raining buckets outside, which isn't at all unusual, this being England and all. I'm in London for the British Interactive Media Association Awards because my game, The Dark Gloriole was nominated. I was all "chuffed" as the Brits would say.
The rain never seems to damper my British friends. Having given up on umbrellas all together, they just hang their heads, hunch their shoulders and march to the pub to drown themselves there before the rain does. I, on the other hand haven't grown the gills for it yet. So I'm tucked indoors, writing this on my friend’s computer while he's at the pub watching an Arsenal match. Judging from how they appear to be having it handed to them on TV, I can't imagine theirs much cheering in his camp.
The BIMA awards ceremony yesterday was nice. Though I had left almost 3 hours in advance, I arrived barely 10 minutes before the dinner because public transport here is about as straight forward as a mangled ball of yarn. I've learnt that it doesn't matter where you're going in London, you might as well buy a multi-zone day pass because you'd have crisscrossed half the city before you got where you hoped.
I was anxious that I might have overdressed for the awards ceremony, but it turned out to be a fancier affair than I had expected – black tuxes, bow ties and all. It was kind of fun, albeit a little intimidating, schmoozing with guys from the BBC, and Orange. The food was a pretty spectacular let down though.
I'll FTP this onto my server, and post it when I'm back in Vienna.
